Acoustic Element are recognised as one of the most sought-after wedding entertainers in South Africa, having performed at over 280 ceremonies over the past seven years!
Yes, you read right. Over 280 weddings.
Being based in Cape Town, there are so many amazing wedding venues – from Paarl to Franschhoek to Stellenbosch to Wellington to Durbanville… all the way down the West Coast. We’ve been honoured to serenade so many beautiful “I Do’s” as it’s proudly become Acoustic Element’s speciality, especially during the South African summer months.
Our first journey down the aisle all started during 2011 in Riebeek Kasteel – one of the oldest towns in South Africa, about 80km outside the Mother City. We were booked to strictly play just three songs – “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King and “Everything” by Michael Buble.
Only problem was… the bride was 40mins late and we ended up playing just those three songs on repeat until she arrived!
Fortunately, most of our weddings have become a smoother routine since then!
During the earlier part of our careers, we were booked regularly by the organisers at De Malle Meul in Philadelphia.
Word quickly spread and we managed to earn a great reputation, which has seen us perform at a number of high-profile weddings. These include Graham Jenneker (Survivour South Africa winner), Aisha Baker (blogger) and Wayne Parnell (Proteas and Cobras cricketer), Beuran Hendricks (Proteas and Lions cricketer), Josh Bess (Zimbabwean national rugby player) and Robin Peterson (former Proteas cricketer) – to name a few.
Well-known wedding co-ordinator Jadee Fernandes, based at the Watermelon Collection, recently expressed on social media: “The first time I heard Acoustic Element, I knew they were a force to be reckoned with. Today, they’re my most requested wedding act!”
When approached to perform, we find that most couples look for something classic and prestige, yet modern and youthful. Something traditional and sophisticated, but at the same time, so different
That’s what we offer on violin, guitar and beatbox.
Whether you want us to set that special tone during the ceremony or entertain guests before the formal reception (or both!), we have you covered.
We get everyone in the loving mood with some easy, contemporary music while guests are seated. We’re able to create an uplifting moment as the bride walks down the aisle with our rendition of “Canon in D” (listen below). We use our music to completely ignite and tie all the emotions – creating that atmosphere a dream wedding is made of.
The canapés usually feature us playing all songs you know and love from the radio – but purely instrumental. So guests can sing along, play the guessing game, bop your head and just enjoy the day!
Most times, we end up building a bond with the couples we meet.
Our best wedding experience was after befriending newly-weds from the UK. We connected so well with the bride and groom at the venue, despite not having previously met before. We were then invited to stay for the rest of the day and ended up sleeping over!
To this day, we still remain good friends with the couple. In fact, we have just received an invite to attend the groom’s 40th birthday!
There have been some strange requests too. The most craziest was a couple’s request to set the mood on their honeymoon night! We remain very tight-lipped about whether or not we went through with this gig…
While we continue to push our original music through the guises of Acoustic Element and ALT EGO, weddings will always remain a big part of our repertoire. We enjoy playing a role in so many love stories, adding our very own special touch.
Cheers to the 280 weddings before. And here’s to 280 more!
