Acoustic Element made a big impression during their first commercial gig at Café Roux on Tuesday by selling out the venue.
As Acoustic Element, we have never done an independent show at a venue that charged an entry fee. We’ve done weddings, corporate functions and public gigs, and more recently as ALT EGO, we were part of an exciting line-up at our first outdoor festival The Night Nation Run, so there were plenty of emotions ahead of another career milestone for us.
We were very excited when Café Roux approached us to host our own show. So many amazing South African artists have graced their stage, so it was an honour to join that prestigious list of performers. We were also looking forward to telling the Acoustic Element story, which explains so much background behind what we do and why we do it.
However, on the other hand, it was a winter midweek night in Cape Town, and as many know, locals don’t like coming out during the working week when it’s cold. Considering this, we were not entirely sure about what sort of audience turnout we should expect.
To our surprise, we received the news from organisers on the day that the show was sold out!
We were very grateful for all our friends and family for showing up to support (especially those who have been backing us since day one), and it was great seeing so many fans fill up most of the seats.
Every week, we’ll get inboxes from strangers who will tell us how they resonate with our music and live performances, but it heart-warming to see them coming through the door and supporting us on our special night.
We started our performance with our popular Acoustic Element renditions of popular hits, which received a great reaction from the audience.
We then ventured into the EDM flavour with the great support of DJ Cosher on the decks.
It’s amazing to see how the blend of Acoustic Element and ALT EGO manages to complement each other so well, despite it being two different sounds. This was well received on the night and will continue to motivate us as we explore the potential of both our musical personas.
After the show, we signed and sold 35 ALT EGO albums and posed for so many photos with fans. It’s great seeing how our brand is growing so well among Cape Town people as the Mother City is our home. We are also excited by the interest from international fans and event organisers! There’s definitely so much more to look forward to later this year.
A special shout-out to the Café Roux team for hosting our first independent commercial gig and we look forward to working with you all very soon. This experience has definitely motivated us to do our own shows more often in the future.
But for now… we are delighted to be able to take time out to take some time off, lock up the guitar and violin away for a few weeks as we head to Europe for a well deserved holiday!
After 261 gigs over the past year, we NEED it!
We will keep you updated on our adventures as we rejuvenate off stage, hoping to come back with much more motivation to entertain you in typical Acoustic Element and ALT EGO fashion!
