Acoustic Element’s Callen Petersen and Jody Abel experienced an enjoyable first week during their holiday adventure in Europe. First stop – Holland!
Along with our good friend Chad Otto, we’ve been based Utrecht this past week, which is a 40-minute drive outside Amsterdam.
We’d describe Utrecht like the Stellenbosch of Holland, with Amsterdam being the more busier and tourist central neighbour, like Cape Town.
Utrecht is a beautiful town – a magical place – with great scenery and outdoor facilities. The building architecture has so much history (especially the churches, which look like mini-castles), while there’s plenty to learn about the culture and traditions inside.
We’ve walked around a lot during the day as there’s plenty to see and do. At night, we’ve had some good fun at restaurants and parties.
We really enjoyed the underground EDM scene in Holland. It comes as no surprise, considering some of the best DJs hail from the Netherlands, including Armin van Buuren, Tiésto, Afrojack, Martin Garrix, Hardwell and more, so with an ALT EGO mindset, we were inspired by the music we got to hear.
We also got to cruise on the Canals of Amsterdam, which was so relaxing. The public transport system (which includes trams and trains) is so efficient and on time, which made our stay so much easier. It’s also interesting to see so many ride bicycles around the city.
A warning, though: WATCH WHERE YOU’RE WALKING! Callen got hit by a bicycle after not checking his pedestrian blindspot!
Otherwise, we had an amazing time in Holland. We’ve been lucky to meet friendly locals and tourists, even spending a few nights with our new friends from Germany.
We now travel to Croatia, where more is in store for us! We will be visiting a few cities before the much-anticipated Ultra Music Festival at Stadion Poljud in Split from 14 to 16 July.
Keep out for AE Tour Diaries (Week 2) soon!
