AE Travel Diaries in Europe

After a wonderful stay in Holland, Acoustic Element’s Callen Petersen and Jody Abel enjoyed a memorable stay in Croatia.

We had a great time in Holland, experiencing many memories in beautiful cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht, which we’ll cherish for a lifetime.

Next on our list was Croatia, which we believe is one of the most underrated tourist destinations in Europe.

While countries like France, Italy and England are the more well-renowned options from a general perspective, Croatia stole our hearts with its natural beauty and entertainment.

We embarked on a seven-day yacht tour, which included 32 other foreigners from Australia, Canada and England. There were three other South Africans on board too, so it was great that we all got to gel as a group as this added something special to the festivities. We got to share these moments with our good friend Chad Otto, who’s been part of the tour since day one, while Jody’s girlfriend Savanah Smith joined the group in Split ahead of Ultra Music Festival.

During our trip, we got to explore the various coastal cities around the Eastern European nation, which offered so much to our Croatian experience.

First of all, there was so much history and culture to discover. Croatia’s historic records date back beyond the age of Christ, so their artefacts and buildings were amazing. It was also interesting to see the various Game of Thrones settings as the popular TV series is shot in the country, mainly because of it’s beautiful natural scenery.

There are so many outdoor activities too as we went zip-lining and canyoning in Makarska and kayaking in Korcula.

And of course, we got to party!

We first visited Revelin in Dubrovnik, which is rated as one of the Top 100 clubs in the world. This is the second chance we’ve got to attend a Top 100 party venue after visiting Illusionz during our travels to Thailand in 2016. We also joined in on an island party in Hvar, with a few smaller parties in Makarska and Mijet.

Then it was time for the Ultra Music Festival at Stadion Poljud in Split, which had some of the best EDM acts on its bill.

We got to set up camp in Beachville, which offered guests entertainment, drinks and food 24-7. The performances at the main stages were awesome! Our favourite sets were Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Seth Troxler, Jewelz and Sparks, Axwell & Ingrosso and Hardwell.

We represented South Africa proudly, wearing the flag on our backs. We were surprised by how many people recognised the South African flag, which started so many conversations. The funniest parts was walking past Europeans and hearing them say things like “Hello South Africa!” and “Ek smaak ‘n boerewors!” in their foreign accents.

After two weeks of traveling, exploring, partying and more, we were on our way back home to Cape Town… excited to get back to business in South Africa.

In fact, upon arrival back in the Mother City – after a 14-hour journey back from Europe – we went rushed to wedding gig! No rest for the wicked, they say.

There’s an exciting schedule lined up for the next few months and a few more big business announcements to make soon. Stay tuned to our website and social media to find out more!
